Wreck At Cayuga

This is my first post of the year. Funny thing called real life was keeping me away from my favorite interest and blog. A friend sent me a video link to this wreck during a hot lapping day at Cayuga Motor Speedway in Canada.

Want To Drive the Nurburgring?

September 27, 2010 Leave a comment

I may have to start a Ring fund because it is pricey! I am not sure if I would spend a lot. I would be happy just do a couple of laps just to scratch it from my bucket list. Check out Dave Coleman’s guide on the Nurburgring on MotoIQ at the Source link below!

Interesting Info on Snell Compliant Helmets

July 12, 2010 Leave a comment

The NY Times article is about the dangers of small M2005 rated motorcycle helmets. It was interesting that some think Snell’s test results should be updated. The writer ends up being fired by his magazine.

Southern California Track Organizer

I found a new track organizer. Well new to me. Hmm, they say they were doing track events since 1999. First time I heard of ’em. Check out their schedule. Their prices look good, $120 for Streets of Willow with free  lap timing (usually additional $20). If you have run with them in the past, comment below about your experience. Click the link below to visit their website.

March 29, 2010 Leave a comment

Saw this upcoming track day on a car forum.

Where – Willow Springs Horse Thief Mile – This is a 1.1 mile tight road course similar to driving a mountain road. There are switchbacks and lots of elevation changes. It is both a fun and challenging course. There are many safe areas to test the limits of your ability. This will not be a drift event. There will be a full safety and flag crew on site for the entire day. Sessions will last 20-25 minutes and alternate between the two run groups.

When – Friday, April 23, 2010. From 8AM to 5PM.

How Much – $150 for almost 4 hours of track time. There will be only a maximum of 30 open spots, divided into 2 run groups, based on skill level and amount of people attending.

NRG Hood Dampers Review

March 23, 2010 Leave a comment

What’s a hood damper? It’s a pneumatic strut that props open your hood. Most high-end cars have these installed instead of the cheapo metal rod that you slide into a hole under the hood. I purchased a pair of NRG stainless steel hood dampers for my Subaru STi. It included all of the necessary hardware for install. The installation was quick and simple with basic hand tools. These have been installed in my car since February 2006 and they still function well.

Will Brake Override Ruin Your Track Day?

March 15, 2010 Leave a comment

With all of these Toyota Prius cars running out of control, there is more awareness of the brake override feature. New car shoppers that like to left foot brake or heel toe shift should check if the car has brake override. Here is an interesting article from Consumer Reports on testing the thresholds of brake override technology in some newer cars. I agree with one of the comments of omitting it from manual transmission cars. There are too many nanny devices built-in today’s cars that can dull the experience for a performance driver.

I wanted to practice taking photos of cars on the track. My friend and I headed out to Willow Springs International Raceway to spectate the Speedventures HPDE there today. We camped out at the top of the omega section and started taking shots in the chilly wind. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Racecomp Engineering Tarmac 2 Coilovers Review

February 21, 2010 2 comments

I was in the market for a coilover system for my 2005 Subaru STi. I did not want a JDM brand due to the stiffness overkill for the crappy roads in Los Angeles. I heard great reviews of the KW variant 3 coilovers from many STI owners so I figured I could not go wrong with getting those. But as I was about to drop my hard earned cash on them, Racecomp Engineering (RCE) announced their coilover made by KW to their specifications.
